Canyoning

Rappels, slides and waterfall jumps through hidden gorges.

The retreat

The Piedmont Alps hide dozens of granite and gneiss canyons carved by glacier-fed streams. You descend a fresh one each day — abseiling waterfalls, sliding polished chutes and jumping into deep plunge pools. Every day starts with a technical brief and an equipment check, with IFMGA-qualified canyoning guides leading groups of no more than six.

Highlights
  • Rio Nono, Val Sesia — three abseils to 15m, natural slides and an optional 5m jump
  • Artogna — the Val Sesia classic: 12 abseils, the tallest at 32m, in a tight granite gorge
  • Rio Cengio, Biella — a 9m natural water slide and a 7m jump into a turquoise pool
  • Chalamy, Valle d'Aosta — a committing full-day alpine traverse under Monte Emilius
  • IFMGA / AIC certified canyoning guides at a maximum 1:6 ratio
  • 5mm wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, dry-bags and rope kit supplied
  • Trail lunch on every canyon day
