Ski Touring

Skinning up, floating down.

The retreat

A serious ski-touring week in the Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta backcountry. Days start early, ascents are long and the descents are earned. You are led by an IFMGA guide with intimate knowledge of the local snowpack — expect avalanche training on day one, then a mix of hut-to-hut and villa-based tours through the week.

Highlights
  • Punta Rossa, Val Chisone — a classic warm-up ascent, 1,200m of climb and a 30° descent through open larch
  • Colle della Rho, Bardonecchia — a ridge tour with French-border views and a short, exposed final ascent
  • Testa Grigia traverse — big-mountain skinning from Gressoney into the Ayas valley, 1,400m of ascent
  • A full avalanche safety day: transceiver, probe, shovel, burial scenarios and companion rescue
  • IFMGA guide at a maximum 1:6 ratio
  • Touring skis, skins, boots and poles on request
  • Transceiver, probe, shovel and ABS airbag pack supplied
